The studio

Fenwick & Tallow is a six-chair shop three blocks back from the river, in a building that spent forty years as a hardware store and still has the shelving to prove it. Two of the chairs are kept free for walk-ins every morning until eleven, because the best haircut in the world is worth nothing to a man who cannot get one on the day he needs it.

We cut with clippers, scissors and a comb, and we finish with a straight razor at the neckline. There is no product pushed at the end, no membership to sign, and no upsell dressed up as advice. If a cut takes twenty minutes we charge for twenty minutes; if your hair needs forty, you get forty at the same price, because we would rather do it properly than do it twice.

The wet shave is the thing we are most careful about. It is three hot towels, a badger brush, a proper lather worked in for a full minute, two passes with the razor, and a cold towel to close everything down at the end. It takes forty minutes and it is not something we hurry. If you have never had one, say so when you sit down and we will talk you through what is happening as we go.

We cut children from about four years old, and we keep a booster board for anyone who needs one. Fathers and sons back to back is our favourite booking of the week. If your child has never sat in a barber chair, come in first without an appointment, let them watch someone else get cut, and book for another day. It costs nothing and it makes the first time far easier.

Booking is by phone or by walking in, and that is deliberate. A barbershop where you can see who is waiting and roughly how long it will take is a better barbershop than one where an app tells you a time that turns out not to be true. Call and we will tell you honestly whether it is a ten-minute wait or an hour, and whether it is worth coming back after lunch instead.

If you are getting married, or standing up at somebody else's wedding, book two appointments rather than one: a cut a fortnight before so the shape has a chance to settle, and a tidy two days before the photographs. We can also open the shop early for the whole party, put coffee on, and get six of you through in an hour and a half.

About this preview

This is an example. Here is the whole arrangement.

Openhouse builds a finished website for a local business, then shows the owner the result. No brief, no meetings, no quote to read. The page above is what that looks like when it is done — built for a business we invented, so that you can read a real one before you ask for yours.

Is Fenwick & Tallow Barbers a real business?
No. The name, the address, the phone number, the hours and the prices above were all written by us for this example. There is nothing to visit and nobody to call. Every other site we build is for a real business, and those are not published until their owner says so.
Would my site look like this one?
It would be built the same way and to the same length, with your own words, your own prices and your own hours. The layout follows the trade — a barbershop's page is not laid out like an electrician's — and anything on it can be changed before you decide anything.
What happens the moment I pay?
The site goes live and we email you a link to your dashboard — that is where messages from your contact form land. Reply to that email with the domain name you want and we point it at your site within one business day. Don't own a domain? We register one, in your name.
And if I do nothing at all?
Nothing happens. No invoice, no card on file — we never see your card details, and we cannot charge one you have not entered. You can read this example for as long as you like without ever telling us who you are.
Who am I actually buying from?
Openhouse — we build finished websites for local businesses and show the owner the result. Write to contact@openhousesites.com and a person answers. The payment is taken by Sparkles Corp, the company that holds our payment account, so that is the name you will see on your statement. The whole agreement — what the price covers, the refund, who owns the site — is one page at openhousesites.com/terms.html.

What a site like this costs

$59a month, cancel any time. Everything listed below, live under your own domain. No setup fee, nothing to install — and you can pay once instead if you would rather own it outright.

A site this size, built for your business, then shown to you before you pay anything.

Finished first, paid for after The page above is finished and public at openhousesites.com/app/for/fenwick-tallow-barbers-savannah-ga. Yours is built the same way: we write it, we put it at an address like that one, and you look at the whole thing before any money changes hands. That is the part nobody else does.

  • The finished siteThe site exactly as you previewed it. Same pages, same words, same layout — nothing is held back for a higher tier.
  • Your content, your tradeYour services, your hours, your area served, and the pages your trade actually needs. Written out, not left as filler.
  • Mobile layoutEvery page composed narrow-screen first, because that is the screen your customers are holding.
  • A working contact formMessages from the form arrive in your email inbox. There is no dashboard to log into and no app to install.
  • SEO setupPage titles, meta descriptions and structured data, so search engines read what you do, where you are and when you are open.
  • Your domain, connectedWe connect a domain you already own. If you do not own one, we register one for you — in your name, and it is yours.
  • Hosting and SSL, 12 monthsCounted from the day the site is activated. No monthly fee in that first year. Nothing to cancel and nothing to forget.
  • One round of revisionsSend your changes in one go — words, photos, sections, the order of the whole thing — and we make them.

Or pay once, and be done $599 once — no monthly fee for 12 months. That is just over 10 months of the monthly plan, and twelve months at $59 a month come to $708 — so paying once is the cheaper of the two, and there is nothing left to cancel. Same site, same guarantee, either way.

14 days to change your mind — full refund, no reason required. One email to contact@openhousesites.com is enough — no form, no phone call, no questions about what went wrong.

Both doors open the same site — same pages, same guarantee. The monthly plan cancels any time with one email to contact@openhousesites.com, and the site stays up until the end of the month you have paid for. Pay once and there is nothing to cancel at all.

Secure payment by card. The charge shows as Sparkles Corp on your statement — that is the company that holds our payment account, and we say so before you click rather than after.
